Add Some Movement Into Your Everyday Life
The Nielsen Company reported in 2012 that the average American over the age of 2 spends more than 34 hours a week watching live television.
As if that wasn’t enough, we Americans tend to watch even more TV as we get older. Children 2-11 years of age watch an average of 24 hours of TV per week (that is 3 1/2 hours a day!). Teens, aged 12-17, watch 22 hours per week. Young adults aged 18-24 watch an average of 25 hours per week.
After that, it rises steadily until we reach people over 65 that average 48 hours a week, or nearly seven hours a day…
Where do you fall in that spectrum? If your TV watching habits tend towards the high end, here is some great news: You’ve got plenty of time to add some movement into your day! Turn some of that screen time into ME time! Walk, jog in place or use the treadmill at the gym while you watch your favorite 30-minute show.
Quick Tip: If you watch just one 30 minute television show per day you will be meeting the American Heart Association guidelines for exercise. Do it for two half hour shows or one hour-long TV show for double the tummy tightening benefits!
