Gentle yoga is offered 5 days a week at AWI! Taught by a Registered Nurse and Certified Yoga Instructor, our classes are designed to maintain muscle softness and flexibility, keep the mind alert and awake, encourage relaxation and strengthen muscles and joints. Its multi-pronged approach can encourage the body, mind and spirit to remain healthy and strong while reducing the effects of many age-related issues. The Gentle Yoga class is tailored to accommodate individual needs with an option to use the chair or a mat.
Yoga is considered to be a type of mindful physical meditation that combines proper breathing techniques with slow and gentle poses. While some might practice yoga as part of their daily physical exercise regime, many rely on it for spiritual enlightenment and relaxation purposes. In fact, yoga is a very important tool in helping those who suffer from stress, anxiety, and even depression. Furthermore, practicing yoga at a consistent and steady pace can provide us with long-term benefits, such as a decreased risk of heart disease and an improved diet and lifestyle. Yoga is a type of practice that is designed for both the body and the mind. In fact, the word yoga itself is translated to “union”. By practicing yoga, we are therefore able to focus on both the physical and mental aspects of our health instead of prioritizing one over the other. Through some breathing, simple postures, and a little meditation yoga allows us to become one with ourselves, often resulting in a calmer and happier state of mind.
